Bio

Chrissie is a multi award-winning solicitor, entrepreneur, careers coach and business consultant whose unconventional route to success has inspired thousands of professionals across to world to persevere in the face of adversity.  She is the founder of Law and Broader, a self-employed freelance consultant to legal businesses and a social media influencer with a following in excess of 80,000.

Chrissie had an unusual start in life being home-educated by her mother until she was a teenager and later attending state school near London for her GCSEs and A-levels.  Following an underwhelming performance at A-level, Chrissie found herself without a university place and had to take a foundation year of study in order to enrol on an honours course at University of Birmingham, where she ultimately graduated with a 2.1 in Animal Biology.  Unsure of what to do next, Chrissie followed the advice of the careers team at Birmingham and enrolled on the law conversion course (GDL) at University of Law.  Again, Chrissie was met with resistance due to her undesirable A-level grades and unique background and she struggled to secure employment in the intensely competitive legal job market. Chrissie persevered and ultimately secured a training contract with a Top 20 law firm where she qualified and practiced for 6 years as an international serious injury solicitor dealing with complex cross-border cases, cosmetic surgery claims and group actions such as the Costa Concordia cruise ship disaster. She also worked closely with the firm’s marketing, careers and innovation teams.

Alongside her day job at a large national law firm, Chrissie set up Law and Broader.  This started off as online mentoring via Youtube primarily for aspiring lawyers who were also struggling to break into the profession.  Chrissie explained how she overcame her barriers as an A-typical candidate for the legal profession and created significant content around employability and how to navigate the demanding life of a junior lawyer.

The channel grew and spread into multiple other social media platforms, events, workshops and public speaking.  Chrissie’s platform has amassed more than 80,000 followers to date and her contributions to the legal industry both through practice and Law and Broader have resulted in multiple award-wins including The Law Society’s Highly Commended Junior Lawyer of the Year 2018 and 2019, Birmingham Law Society’s Solicitor of the Year 2019 and Downtown in Business Woman of the Year 2019.

“Chrissie is incredibly charismatic whilst also remaining honest as she often tackles difficult topics. Due to these qualities she has the wonderful ability to connect and engage with her audience who, in my experience, always leave her talks having taken something positive away. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her as a speaker. Aside from this, she is delight to work with.”

“Inviting Chrissie to deliver an online talk to our students was a fantastic idea. She was very responsive throughout the planning of the event, which was really helpful to align all the administrative details to make it happen. In terms of the content, she brought her expertise to suggest interesting points that would highly benefit our audience – and definitely had a positive impact on the number of people attending. On the day, Chrissie was punctual and energetic in her speech, making a valuable contribution to the legal students watching her. I couldn't recommend her more!’’
